Suydam “Makes A Wish” and Sets Auction Record!
Arthur Suydam’s “Batman Undead” set an unprecedented record for the highest sale price of any artwork in the history of the Pittsburgh Comic Con auction on April 22, 2006.
Renee and Michael George, the convention’s organizers, donated all proceeds from the auction to benefit the Make A Wish Foundation, a national charity that serves to “grant the wishes of children with life-theatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.”
Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation's mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish® experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors, and entire communities.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 after a little boy named Chris Greicius realized his heartfelt wish to become a police officer. Since its humble beginnings, the organization has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon, reaching more than 144,000 children worldwide.
Suydam, whose body of work is comprised primarily of watercolor and gouache, began painting exclusively with oils a few years ago. As such, his original oil paintings are extremely rare and are not readily available to the public.
The Pittsburgh Comic Con used Suydam’s “Batman Undead” for the cover of its programs, and Suydam agreed to donate his original oil artist’s proof to benefit the charity.
“As a kid who spent a lot of time in the hospital, I whole-heartedly support any organization that helps to make the hard times go a little more smoothly,” said Suydam of his choice to donate one of his rare oils.
We at Suydam Studios are pleased and honored at the results of the auction, and our heartfelt thanks go out to Renee and Michael George for their continuing efforts.

Recent works include:
