“The definition of fine art,
as opposed to commercial art,
is that with fine art, the art itself
is the product.
Commercial art is used to sell a product.
In comics, it is the art that is for sale.”
Arthur Suydam, 2005

Suydam's Wife. On the Roof.

There is a science to making a figure interesting. First and foremost, there must be movement, preferrably in an "s" shaped curve. Secondly, there must be a weight, an inner tension within the character itself that will make the character dynamic. I've been known to tie models to the chimney on our roof to find the correct muscle positions that indicate struggle and force. My wife should get an award.
